A Few Words About Us

(DE)CODED the Comedy is a play produced by Starchild New Works, the brainchild of writer, actor, and Houston native Lizzie Guest. Founded in early 2018, Starchild New Works is committed to bringing exciting topical new works to the stage and screen.

About Lizzie Guest, the Playwright

Playwright, actress, and singer Lizzie Guest brings her comedic voice and piercing wit to intergenerational themes that are rooted in current culture. “(DE)CODED reflects my own high school and college experiences with social anxiety,” confides Lizzie. “This story is about healing and expresses hope that when we open up to others, life surprises us with new possibilities.”

Guest was inspired to write three new plays in 2018: (DE)CODED premiering at #FringeNYC in October, “Rest in Pieces” at the LIC One Act Festival in July and October at EAT, and “Chance’s Gambit” at EAT in March. All of these plays have significant roles for young women with a feminist viewpoint.

Guest, a member of the Dramatist Guild, explains, “My aim is to write contemporary, character-driven stories that create empathy for others and help us feel connected. These narratives explore the inner lives of younger adults ages 16-35. They speak of the pain and discover of growing up in our volatile, media-saturated, anxiety-inducing, isolating world. The struggles with identity, love, loss, and longing, relationships, and morality are timeless. Social and political themes are made relevant through personal stories.”

A recent transplant from Texas to New York, Lizzie appreciates all the opportunities she has to partner, learn, and grow professionally. Currently, Lizzie is writing the book and lyrics for a new musical, planning a short film, and developing a screenplay.
